Our apartment (The Kaan Apartments) is one of 5 situated in a quiet side street in the picturesque village of Kalkan. The apartment comes fully equipped with fridge freezer, washing machine and cooker. Both bedrooms are air-conditioned and there is a free standing electric fan in the lounge area. We also have a mini CD hi-fi unit, with some CD`s but guests are welcome to bring their own. There is a shared pool with sun loungers and additionally there is a roof terrace. Furthermore there are 3 balconies leading from the lounge and the 2 bedrooms.
We fell in love with this apartment because it offers everything you need for a self catering holiday and also because it is in such a quiet and convinient location. There is a small corner shop about 2 minutes away, whilst the town is about a 5 minute stroll.
Things to do!
Sights. There is a small pebble beach in Kalkan itself but most people prefer to visit Kapatus beach about 10 minutes away by dolmus (the local bus service). However for a real beach lovers paradise one should visit Patara beach. This beach is 10 miles of fine white sand without a hotel in sight, this is because it has been designated a conservation area due to the fact that the Logger head turtles lay their eggs here, this is why there is a small charge to access the beach. It is well worth a visit however as it also features some ancient ruins including part of an amphitheatre. Patara beach was also voted the winner of the best beach in the world in a survey conducted by the Sunday times.
A lazy day at the sea. This is a must and can be arranged with one of the local sailors who will charter out his gullet and take you to the most beautiful coves where the azure waters are so clean and crystal clear that shoals of fish are clearly visible. Most of these trips will also include a delicious lunch on board.
Saklikent Gorge. This is a really fun day out as you make your way through the icy cold waters into the magnificent gorge. Be prepared to get wet"!
Pony Trekking. Ride your pony along the golden sands of Patara beach, Ideal for adults and children.
Trout Farm, Islamlar. Behind Kalkan lies the village of Islamlar where there are a number of trout farms with restaurant facilities. Enjoy a delicious lunch of freshly grilled trout, fresh sald and locally produced cheese and bread. Simply divine!
Scuba Diving. There are several diving schools in Kalkan catering for beginners or more experienced divers.
Beach Clubs. These are sunbathing platforms cut into the rocks with safe access to the sea. The beach club at Kalamar will pick you up and drop you back to the apartment free of charge. It is a really relaxing way to spend the day, with waiters on hand to serve you every need. There is also a really good, reasonably priced restauarant at the beach club in Kalamar bay.
